Amy and Peter November 11th, 2010

Amy & Peter were married in the Draper LDS temple on a bitter November weekend. Amy had a great sense of style that is evident in the details of her reception.

The Face of Autism Exhibit

Autism Poster with logo FINAL DATES

I have spent the last 6 months photographing over a dozen families that have one or more children on the Autism spectrum. It has been a wonderful project that I have enjoyed learning from. These parents simply amaze me! They deal with the everyday struggles of raising a child with unique development delays that look like they are just regular children. Because individuals with Autism look like everyone else, I have heard heartbreaking stories of children having meltdowns at stores because of sensory overloads while onlookers cast judging looks to the "parents who cannot control their child." Some parents have said people tell them right to their face that they need to control their child.

In an attempt to help the public understand these children and their parents I put together an exhibit about Autism and its characteristics. It's first home is on Brigham Young University Campus in Provo, Utah. It is in the B.F. Larsen Main gallery on the main floor of the Harris Fine Arts Center until February 11th. Then it will be on the University of Utah's campus in March; exact dates will be decided soon. And beginning April 15th some of the photographs will be apart of the "Paint it Blue" art exhibit fundraiser for Autism at the Salt Lake City Museum of Art. Other gallery shows are in the works and I will post when they are.

Please contact me if you know of a gallery, library, store, etc that will host the exhibit. We can all work together to get this show to as many viewers as possible! Let's empower the public with knowledge of Autism!

Out of the Office

I will be out of the office today, January 8th, for my wonderful great grandfather's funeral. He lived a great life and was without my grandmother for 12 years. He was happily reunited with her on Friday.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

Second piece of wonderful news: I am now offering photography family sessions for individuals and children with disabilities. I have photographed over 20 families with children with autism for a autism awareness exhibit that will be beginning in February at the Harris Fine Arts Center in Provo, Utah. More information to come on that soon. At this time it is the regular price of family portraits.

Becca & Michael: Houston, Texas 10/9/10

I absolutely LOVED capturing the story of Becca and Michael's Wedding in Houston, Texas. The wedding was originally in Utah but when it was moved out to Texas Becca thought she need to find a photographer in Texas to stay in the budget. However, after shopping for quotes in Texas she spoke to me about travel packages. She found that it was a better deal to have a photographer (and videographer) from Utah fly out than to hire someone from Texas. I couldn't be more thrilled!

I flew out the day before the wedding with Sara, the amazing videoographer from Camelot Studios. It was so much fun to be there for all the "behind the scenes" that conspire before the wedding and on the wedding day. I photographed everything from flower arrangements being made to table clothes being ironed- all the small things that I never get to capture. I even had the privilege of photographing Becca and her family outside the temple after she went through the temple the night before. It was great to get to know the family so well.

The wedding day had perfect wedding weather- mid 80s, low humidity (I heard this was not normal), and blue skies. I throughly enjoyed the break from cold Utah. The reception was well planned and the little details made it wonderful. Homemade jam made by the happy couple were the wedding favors and the cupcake tiered "cake" was a hit! I am so happy I was able to be apart Becca and Michael's special day.

If you are interested in a photographer for your wedding outside of Utah and would like travel information, please contact Abby at abbyalgerphotography@gmail.com or (801) 577-4400.

Sneak Peak of my Weekend

I had an amazing and busy weekend photographing two weddings and doing an additional shoot for a project on Autism Awareness (many posts about this project to come soon).

The first wedding on Friday was at the LDS Draper Temple. I felt this temple really fit with Amy's style because the architecture and style of the building facade is more modern and Amy's wedding had a very modern style. Her reception at the Blue Lemon in Highland had a chic look that Amy enhanced with her decorations. I loved documenting this fun day!

The second wedding was on Saturday at the Holy Trinity Church - a Greek Orthodox Church in Salt Lake City. The ceremony was a gorgeous small ceremony with a total of seven people including the bride, groom, and priest! I loved the intimate feel that remind me of my own wedding (my husband and I only had 8 guests at our wedding ceremony). It was the first greek wedding I have ever seen. The church is beyond gorgeous! The architecture, stain glass and paintings are stunning works of art produced by the finest craftsmen. Some of the materials of the building were imported from Italy and add to the character and beauty of this exquisite building. I felt close to God through my experience there.

Enjoy these teasers until I edit more of the photos!
